“The Hotness Equation”

Why Beautiful People tend to have a Faster Learning Curve

D = (HF)^2

The Equation:

If you’re hot (HF, or Hotness Factor, on a scale from 1 to 10), the percentage of additional times you’re asked to dance (D) per night at an event is exponentially higher.

*(However, RH, ridiculously hot people tend to intimidate, so this equation only works for the bell curve of hot people. This equation also doesn’t take into account how brilliant (B) or annoying (a!) the person is, which is better defined through the Paris Hilton - Einstein Paradox.)

The Breakdown:

1) Good Looking = People want to dance with you

If you’re really, really, ridiculously good-looking, no matter how good you are, people are interested in dancing with you. We’re shallow. Even if you look like a drunk epileptic spider monkey while dancing, you look like a HOT drunk epileptic spider monkey. Dancers will give you a higher benefit of the doubt in your abilities, because even if they have a terrible dance with you, they get to bask in your hotness.

2) Good Looking = Confident

Similarly, if you’re attractive, you just might have enough confidence to ask better Lindy Hoppers or Bal Dancers to dance. Therefore, you’re skill level increases because of your exposure to veterans.

3) Good Looking = Take Care of your Body

Sometimes this doesn’t apply, as in some super models don’t have to do anything to maintain their appearance, but chances are, people who are beautiful take care of their bodies, and are able to dance at a higher level based on their level of fitness. They might diversify their workouts (see popular non-swing exercise programs), and therefore be in a better shape to pick up that crazy move where you go into the splits after doing three spins and a back flip (since that obviously means good dancing).

Is there hope for the rest of us? Yes, of course. This equation just explains why Lindy McHottie might go from newb to intermediate with what seems like lightning speed. Not everyone can be born with symmetrical features, the perfect body, or enough leisure time to enjoy an unparalleled learning curve.

However, there is an equation that applies to everyone:

S = [(D/2)HBYWI]^P!

S = Success
D=Dances
HBYWI =How Bad You Want It
P= # times you Practice per week
