Stuff Lindy Hoppers Like: White Shoe Edition

Face it.

We’ve all pined for glimmering white, sueded or hard-leather-bottom shoes. In the past, we looked for them on the dance floor at an exchange, workshop, or a new scene as the marking of an upper level dancer, otherwise known as a “bad ass.” Now, everyone and their newbie friend has a pair of white shoes.

For Leads: Aris Allens All the Way

When one refers to “Aris Allens,” the Dance Store canonized Cap-Toe shoe, the name undefined implies that the color of the leather is white. If someone has a pair of Aris Allens that is not white, they refer to the pairs as their “Black Aris Allens” or their “Gray Aris Allens,” etc.

Although these particular shoes have many positive attributes, the prevelance of these hard-leather bottomed shoes with matching heel has contributed to slide-a-mania and the death of triple steps in many regions of the country.

For Follows: The Ked Phenomenon

Who knew that old-lady shoes would be so popular? The lightweight, comfortable design of this orthopedic footwear makes Keds one of the most widespread shoes worn by follows today. Even though you could probably borrow a pair from your grandmother, Lindy follows (and some leads) love Keds and buy them despite the fact that they turn grey with dirt within a few weeks. Grasshoppers and Dance Store’s versions offer more styles of the favorite white shoes.

Once I forgot to bring extra sneakers with me when I visited my sister in Boston, and donned my white Ked loafers to go out to lunch. She looked at me, astonished, and said, “Since when did you start wearing Granny shoes?”
